Dec. 10-14

Dear Parents and Families,
We hope you are enjoying the beginning of the holiday season. We have a busy few weeks ahead.

As the weather grows ever colder, please make sure your child is dressed appropriately and has a jacket every day. We play outside 3 times a day unless it is raining!

Please help alleviate the high volume of last minute calls about students and whether they are riding the bus/getting picked up. If you could make your calls before the last hour or two of the day they would greatly appreciate it!

Permission slips for our 1st grade field trip to the Hurricane Rec Center for the Festival of Trees are due by Wed. Dec. 12.

In Language Arts we will be practicing Proper Nouns, the suffix "es", action verbs, and the phonogram "ed."

We are in the middle of November and Thanksgiving will soon be here. We are all excited for Thanksgiving and all the yummy food. We have been writing about turkeys, Thanksgiving dinner, and fall.

This week we will be working on rhyming words, common nouns, helping verbs, adjectives, and related sentences.

In Math we will test on Chapter 4 Wednesday. We will begin Chapter 5 on Thursday. We have started to send home math practice sheets. Please do one page a day so they stay with the class. We do not want them to go ahead because they might get frustrated.

As the weather turns colder please make sure you send your child to school with a coat. We go out three times a day for recess. If they do not have a coat they still have to go because the teachers have to be outside with the others observing.

Please remember to send money or books back for the Dixie Direct fundraiser.

HOMEWORK: Please read each day with you child. They have a reading log that has been going home. This is being graded and will be on report cards.

October 8 -10

We have had a great start to October. We are coming along great with our Phonemes/Phonograms. If you want to practice with your child at home you can download the Spalding app, the cost is around $4.00. You can also purchase the flash cards on Amazon.

We will be working on rhyming words, new phonograms - aw, au, ck, wh, ed, ew, ui, oa, gu, ph, we will continue working on declarative sentences, nouns, verbs, adjectives articles, and begin interrogative sentences.

In math we will continue Chapter 3 Addition Strategies.

We will also incorporate Columbus Day and a Pumpkin Write.

In your child's backpack you will find a fundraiser letter and a flyer for walk to school day.

Please make sure you child brings a backpack every day. We are having more and more children come with no backpacks. They have nothing to put notes, other papers, and books in. Take home books will start and they need a safe place. Books will come home on Mondays and they need to be sent back to the school on Friday. If a book is lost there is a $6.00 replacement fee.

We are getting more and more tardies each day. First thing in the morning is very important. It sets the tone for the day and is a very important writing practice. If your child is 10 minutes late they have lost out on that practice. This also disrupts the entire class.

Upcoming Events:

October 8 - Columbus Day

October 10 - Walk to school day

October 11 - 15 is Fall break - No School, we will look forward to seeing your child on Tuesday October 16th.
